The bookstore felt cool and inviting. Maya ran a finger along the spines of the novels, her gaze drifting over the titles, searching for something new to read. The air smelled of paper and old stories. She had the entire day free.

She'd bought a new notebook and a fancy pen earlier. Her party arrangements were finalized, all the RSVPs received. There would be games, music, and laughter. Nothing left for her to do but enjoy.

She found a comfortable armchair by the window, the sunlight spilling over her. She picked out a book and turned to the first page. A quiet contentment settled over her, warm and enveloping.
